چکیده

This paper develops a queueing model of a buffer that collects cells for reassembly into packets for a protocol layer above the ATM layer. Whenever the buffer fills with all packets incomplete, a packet must be sacrificed to make room for others. The queueing model estimates the equilibrium fraction of packets sacrificed. Applications to sizing the buffer for a prescribed loss probability are given.

M1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...

A Pc-based Atm Link Delay Simulator

We have implemented a low-cost, flexible, and easy-touse Link Delay Simulator (LDS) for OC-3 (155 Mbps) ATM links using a commodity Pentium PC equipped with a single PCI ATM host adapter. The LDS is a useful tool for studying the effects of varied link delays on protocol behavior. The LDS demands 100% sustained, full-duplex bandwidth from the ATM host interface. This performance requirement is ...

Performance of Interconnecting FDDI Networks through ATM when Managing Video Traffic

The interest in LAN interconnection through high speed networks is becoming increasingly important because new applications with stronger timing and bandwidth requirements are arising. This paper studies the end-to-end performance achieved when routing FDDI traffic through an ATM network. Traffic consists of merged IP and coded, packetized video. A main contribution of this work is the use of r...

Design of Virtual Channel Queue in an ATM Broadband Terminal Adaptor

In order to take advantage of the low entry cost of the future public ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) network with shared facilities, it is highly desirable to interconnect different hosts and local area networks (LANs) to the ATM network. The interface between the computer hosts or LANs and the ATM network, commonly called a broadband terminal adaptor (BTA), provides the necessary format conv...

Buffer management and flow control in the Credit Net ATM host interface

Among the many benefits of ATM networking are the potential for connections with negotiated quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees and application-specific data management at network endpoints. In this paper we describe the architecture of a PCI bus host adapter for OC-3 and OC-12 ATM, focusing on challenges in the areas of buffer management and flow control, since these are vital to realizing the...
